Atlantis Canceled: Confirmed By Sci-Fi

October 19, 2008 Pandora 1 comment

In late August it was confirmed that Stargate: Atlantis is finishing it’s fifth and final season.  In January it will conclude with it’s 100th episode and also it’s final for the series.  Not unlike SG-1 Atlantis still has life in it and is scheduled for a two-hour movie.  No name has been chosen as of yet, but it’s future is existant.

“One hundred episodes is the goal of every writer-producer,” Brad Wright told GateWorld exclusively. “To have achieved that with a spin-off series is amazing. And like SG-1, I don’t feel as though anything is coming to an end with Atlantis — it’s just evolving. Ark of Truth and Continuum were hugely satisfying creatively for everyone involved precisely because they were movies, and we have no intention of stopping there.”

For a spin-off show to survive 100 episodes and five seasons is a great feat and something to be proud of.  Atlantis has been certainly been an exciting new adventure to latch onto after SG-1 concluded it’s regular shows.  However, Stargate’s followers are too loyal to simply resolves themselves to an end, as it seems Atlantis has only ended its reign on the Sci-Fi channel.

“We’re excited to tell Atlantis stories on a bigger canvas,” series creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper said. “The successes of the two original Stargate DTV movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise.”

As many rumors have confirmed another Stargate spinoff is also a possibility for the future, so hold tight Stargate fans.  This is nowhere near the end of the Atlantis or Stargate Franchise!

Kenley Is Out!

Thank the stars!  Last night Season Five on Project Runway had it’s finale, and the queen of obnoxious whining and excuses was finally told she wasn’t the winner.  There is no question in my mind she was kept around for as long as she was because she brought drama to the show, but in the same breath, she also brought a huge amount of disrespect for some of the most regarded names in the fashion biz.

First of all, with the final three contestants, Kenley was obviously out of her element.  Korto’s line of bright and vivacious African and cultural influenced dresses was spectacular and brilliantly tailored, while Leanne’s innovative wave inspired line was breathtaking and simply divine.  Both of their executions were beyond words.  Kenley with her over the top prints, strange fabric integrations, and apparent knock offs, not too mention the inability to once again take any criticism and to at 25 deem herself the all knowing of the fashion business, even offering Diane Von Furtensburg the insight to put more “color” in her line, finally caught up with her.  Perhaps two, maybe three, of her final ten dresses were at all compelling, the rest looked like something the Joker would be flaunting.

Regardless of her lack of talent, her attitude was just unfathomable throughout the series, laughing when fellow designers were being criticized, cutting everyone else down, but being completely unable to take any herself, and essentially alienating herself from everyone, only to blame it on a childhood “toughness”.  Perhaps she wouldn’t have spent her life fighting if she felt the need to to be kind now and again, and have some humbleness and humility.

In the end, the best designer truly did win.  I would have been just as satisfied if Korto won though and it certainly would have been a more interesting runway if Jerell had been able to offer his line instead of Kenley, but the satisfaction of the best and most creative fashion forward designer winning is gratifying enough.   Gotta love Project Runway.  Au Revior Kenley!  Your loss was almost as entertaining as Leanne’s win.

Lego Batman

It has arrived with much anticipation after it’s predecessors Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones.  Has it surpassed it’s elders or is it a weak attempt to carry on the phenomenon of Lego funsies?  I have not fully beaten the game yet, though am at least 70% into it at this point and believe it’s fair to say, it’s not quite as good as IJ or SW but it certainly is fun!

The difference is it doesn’t follow to plotlines of it’s feature films as Indiana Jones and Star Wars did. and that to me was a definate negative.  Part of the joy and fun of the Lucas films was knowing what part of the story was coming next and actually being able to play threw those beloved movie moments.  Of course, always with a tongue in cheek.  Batman didn’t emote those strong movieplex moments, but it certainly did strike up it’s own original plot of nostalgia.

What is epically cool about Lego Batman is it stayed true to the comics and Adam West television characters.  There is no Danny Devito Peguin or Heath Ledger Joker, in fact the only character that resembles it’s film representation is Michelle Pfieffers Catwoman, which makes more sense for Lego creation.  Ultimately, you get to play the characters it their truest form and with the heart in which they were created.

Lego Batman also offers another original perspective and that is playing the game from the villains perspective.  Three storylines are heros and three for the villains.  In essence, it’s just plain smooth to be able to play to story as both the good guy and bad guy.

I find Lego Batman to be a success.  What Lego games are in the future I don’t know, but hopefully more to come.  It’s challenging enough for an adult to take on, but youthful and fun enough that my five year old and I can play it together seamlessly.

For some excellent walkthroughs to help threw those tricksy parts or to search for those canisters you can’t seem to find try Luna Bean and Lego Cheats.

What’s Good On TV!

For the first time in three years I’ve resubscribed to cable and have discovered exactly what it is I’ve been missing.  This fall is full of dramas, cheap and creative reality tv, and the joys of sitcoms, not to mention all sorts of new shows to explore.

In the drama category we’ve got old shows like Hous, Heroes, and Stargate Atlantis returning with newbie The Sarah Connor Chronicles making a very large splash in the Fall season opener pool.  New shows like Sci-Fi’s Sanctuary and the return of Lost are also building a high anticipation for the rest of this tv year.

The Sitcoms are blowing up with The Office rocking again this year and the return of Scrubs Season 8 on ABC highly anticipated.

Reality TV good and bad has been overwhelming the tube.  Shows like Bravo’s Top Design, Project Runway and the return of Top Chef leave much to be excited about.  Disovery’s Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe just started another season, and no one ever tires of Mythbusters.  LA Ink, Criss Angel Mindfreak, and Dog The Bountry Hunter are still going strong, while Sci-Fi offers new series like Destination Truth and Spike TV’s new season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Hopefully there will be a return of Dexter and other shows, but so far this year of TV watching is off to an excellent start.
